Martin Scorsese<\/a>\u00a0has penned an emotional tribute to the late Hollywood director Rob Reiner, describing him as a \u201cmaster\u201d.<\/p>\n The 78-year-old filmmaker \u2013 known for classics including\u00a0This Is Spinal Tap<\/i>, Stand By Me<\/i>, The Princess Bride<\/i>,\u00a0When Harry Met Sally<\/i>,\u00a0Misery\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0A Few Good Men\u00a0<\/i>\u2013\u00a0was found murdered alongside his wife, 70-year-old photographer Michele Singer Reiner, in their Los Angeles home<\/a>\u00a0on December 14.<\/p>\n Reiner was also a celebrated comic\u00a0actor\u00a0and Scorsese directed him in his 2013 film\u00a0The Wolf\u00a0Of\u00a0Wall Street<\/i>, in which Reiner played Max Belfort, the father of Leonardo DiCaprio<\/a>\u2019s lead character Jordan Belfort.<\/p>\n Scorsese has\u00a0written\u00a0an essay for the\u00a0New York Times<\/i><\/a>\u00a0in which he outlines his relationship with Reiner, who he first met in the 1970s. \u201cRob Reiner was my friend, and so was Michele,\u201d he wrote.\u00a0\u201cFrom now on,\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0have to use the past tense, and that fills me with such profound sadness. But\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0no other choice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n \u201cRight away, I loved hanging out with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would take over the room. He had a\u00a0beautiful sense of uninhibited freedom<\/a>, fully enjoying the life of the moment, and he had a great\u00a0barrelling\u00a0laugh,\u201d\u00a0he added.<\/p>\n Scorsese named his\u00a0favourite\u00a0of Reiner\u2019s films as\u00a0Misery<\/i>, the 1990 adaptation of the Stephen King<\/a>\u00a0thriller,\u00a0calling\u00a0it \u201ca very special film, beautifully acted by Kathy Bates and James Caan\u201d, while he also\u00a0described\u00a0This Is Spinal Tap\u00a0<\/i>as being \u201cin a class of its own\u201d and \u201ca kind of immaculate creation\u201d.<\/p>\n Speaking about directing him in\u00a0The Wolf Of Wall Street<\/i>, he added:\u00a0\u201cHe could improvise with the best, he was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with Leo and the rest of the guys, and he understood the human predicament of his character: The man loved his son, he was happy with his success, but he knew that he was destined for a fall.\u201d<\/p>\n A day after the couple\u2019s bodies were found,\u00a0their 32-year-old son Nick Reiner was arrested in connection with their deaths<\/a>,\u00a0and\u00a0he\u00a0has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with \u201cspecial circumstances\u201d<\/a>.
