A trailer for Electric Studios, the\u00a0new music\u00a0venue replacing the iconic\u00a0Leadmill\u00a0in Sheffield, has been released \u2013 watch below.<\/p>\n
The historic\u00a0Leadmill\u00a0closed its doors in June after a 45-year run in the city\u00a0centre, losing a battle to stay open after\u00a0its owners were denied an appeal against an eviction notice<\/a>\u00a0and given\u00a0three months to vacate the premises.<\/p>\n Electric Group \u2013 which runs various venues\u00a0around the UK, including Brixton Electric \u2013 are the new operators of the site and\u00a0they confirmed in July that the Leadmill would be reinvented as a new music venue<\/a>, with the Electric Studios doors set to open in February 2026.<\/p>\n Now, Electric Studios have posted an Instagram reel in which they preview the new venue.\u00a0\u201cElectric Studios is a vibrant, multifunctional event space,\u201d the trailer says. \u201cFor Sheffield.\u201d<\/p>\n Mike Weller, head of music at the venue, goes on to say: \u201cAny form of music\u00a0won\u2019t\u00a0feel out of place within these walls.\u201d<\/p>\n Check out the full trailer here:<\/p>\n <\/p><\/a><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n The redevelopment has cost approximately \u00a32million, and it will have a capacity of 1,050 for live gigs and 1,450 for club events, with the owners saying they will be \u201ccollaborating with national and independent promoters, music labels, and brands\u201d to bring an eclectic mix of events to the venue.<\/p>\n Following feedback from locals, there\u00a0will be a redesigned venue layout, better stage sightlines, a new PA system, and improved facilities including toilets, cloakrooms, and staircases. Also on offer will be a rehearsal room, communal\u00a0area\u00a0and kitchen, to promote a collaborative workspace.<\/p>\n Dominic Madden, Co-Founder of Electric Group added: \u201cSheffield is a special city, and with the plans for Electric Studios, we are committed to a\u00a0programme\u00a0of substantial investment, refurbishment and curation for it to thrive \u2013 with a modern vision that respects the cultural significance of the building and history of the existing venue while putting the artist and fan experience front and\u00a0centre\u00a0of our plans.<\/p>\n \u201cWork here so far is creating over 100 jobs, as it is being\u00a0finalised\u00a0for opening next Spring when we look forward to welcoming music lovers to the latest addition to the Electric circuit of special music venues,\u201d Madden continued.<\/p>\n The\u00a0previous\u00a0owners had\u00a0operated\u00a0on the site since 1980, and hosted live performances from local talent like\u00a0Arctic Monkeys<\/a>,\u00a0Pulp<\/a>,\u00a0Bring Me The Horizon<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Self Esteem<\/a>, as well as presenting sets from\u00a0Muse<\/a>,\u00a0Coldplay<\/a>,\u00a0The Strokes<\/a>,\u00a0Oasis<\/a>\u00a0and many more.<\/p>\n Friend of the venue\u00a0Miles Kane played the final-ever live show at The Leadmill<\/a>\u00a0on June 27, before\u00a0\u2018The Last Dance\u2019 closed club night the next evening.<\/a><\/p>\n Threats of eviction went back to 2022<\/a>, and at the time there was a huge show of support\u00a0from music fans and artists alike<\/a>.<\/p>\n Arctic Monkeys expressed their support for the landmark Sheffield venue that year<\/a> \u2013 following the Sheffield band playing two gigs there back in 2007 \u2013 and earlier this year Richard Hawley told\u00a0NME<\/i>\u00a0about his \u201coverwhelming sense of sadness\u201d over the loss of the original Leadmill<\/a>.
