Jack Black<\/a> has paid personal tribute to Rob Reiner, crediting the late director for inspiring some of his most beloved work.<\/p>\n The 78-year-old filmmaker and his wife, the photographer Michele Singer-Reiner,\u00a0were found murdered in their home in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles<\/a>\u00a0last weekend (December 14).<\/p>\n A day later,\u00a0the couple\u2019s 32-year-old son Nick Reiner was arrested in connection with their deaths<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0he has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with \u201cspecial circumstances\u201d.\u00a0His charges could carry a life sentence or the death penalty under California law.<\/p>\n Black appeared on\u00a0Late Night\u00a0With\u00a0Seth Meyers\u00a0<\/i>this week (December 16) and spent a significant amount of his segment heaping praise on Reiner and crediting him with being the inspiration behind both Tenacious D<\/a> and\u00a0School\u00a0Of\u00a0Rock<\/i>.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t really want to talk about anything other than Rob Reiner because he was such an incredible inspiration to me,\u201d Black said. \u201cAnd if you mention\u00a0Tenacious D, there is no Tenacious D without\u00a0Spinal\u00a0Tap.\u00a0And anyone out here, any of the young millennials that\u00a0haven\u2019t\u00a0seen\u00a0Spinal Tap<\/i>, do yourself a\u00a0favour.\u00a0There\u2019s\u00a0no\u00a0School of Rock\u00a0<\/i>without\u00a0Spinal Tap<\/i>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n \u201cI love so many of his movies,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt\u2019s\u00a0like an incredible oeuvre of films that he made. What a genius. I just wanted to really\u00a0quick\u00a0give a shout-out to one of the biggest inspirations of my life and send love to the universe to one of the greats. He brought so much joy.\u201d<\/p>\n 1984\u2019s\u00a0This Is Spinal Tap\u00a0<\/i>was Reiner\u2019s directorial debut, with Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer playing the members of the fictional English heavy metal band Spinal Tap and Reiner himself playing Marty Di Bergi, the \u201cdocumentarian\u201d making a film about their attempted comeback.<\/p>\n The sequel,\u00a0Spinal Tap II: The End<\/i><\/a>\u00a0<\/i>Continues<\/i><\/a>, was released as Reiner\u2019s last film earlier this year.\u00a0Paul McCartney<\/a>\u00a0had a cameo in it, and this week,\u00a0the Beatle paid his own tribute to Reiner<\/a>, writing: \u201cLife can be so\u00a0unfair\u00a0and this tragedy proves it\u201d.<\/p>\n Less complimentary about Reiner was Donald Trump, who posted a personal attack on the late director on Monday (December 15),\u00a0suggesting that his death was brought about by his hatred of the President<\/a>.<\/p>\n His comments drew extensive criticism, including from\u00a0Jack White<\/a>, who said:\u00a0\u201cTrump you disgusting, vile, egomaniac loser, child. Neither he nor any one of his followers can defend this gross, horrible insult to a beautiful artist who gave the world so much. To use someone\u2019s tragic death to promote your own vanity and fascist authoritarian agenda is a corrupt and narcissistic sin.\u201d<\/p>\n Reiner was also known for helming Hollywood classics such as\u00a0Stand\u00a0By\u00a0Me\u00a0<\/i>(1986),\u00a0The Princess Bride<\/i>\u00a0(1987),\u00a0When Harry Met Sally\u00a0<\/i>(1989),\u00a0Misery\u00a0<\/i>(1990)\u00a0and\u00a0A Few Good Men<\/i>\u00a0(1992).<\/p>\n As for Black, his new film is a reboot of the 1997 horror adventure Anaconda<\/em>, in which he stars alongside Paul Rudd<\/a> and Thandiwe Newton.
