Among several of her backers were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/jameela-jamil-on-how-she-ruined-glastonbury-for-coldplay-superfan-benedict-cumberbatch-3838706\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jameela Jamil<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/regina-spektor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Regina Spektor<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/gwen-stefani\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gwen Stefani<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/maya-hawke\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Maya Hawke<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/ryan-tedder\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ryan Tedder<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/charlie-puth\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Charlie Puth<\/a>, Matt Bomer,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/sheryl-crow\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sheryl Crow<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/artists\/aaron-paul\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aaron Paul<\/a>\u00a0and Kate Hudson.<\/p>\n\n<p>Now, however, Seyfried has clarified in a chat with <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/film\/news\/amanda-seyfried-joni-mitchell-cover-long-bright-river-1236335319\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"><em>Variety\u2019s Just For Variety<\/em><\/a> podcast that she never meant for the cover to be taken as an audition:\u00a0\u201cIt was not an audition. In fact, I didn\u2019t even consider that, which is funny. What I know about that project is that I\u2019m very, very much aged-out of [playing] young Joni.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out, a Joni Mitchell biopic is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nme.com\/news\/music\/cameron-crowe-directing-movie-about-joni-mitchell-3419538\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">currently in the works from\u00a0<em>Almost Famous <\/em>director Cameron Crowe<\/a>. The project as first revealed in 2023, though a cast has yet to be announced.<\/p>\n<p>The film had been in development for several years by that point, with the two of them working together for at least two years.
